Wonderful story. I live at Lake Okoboji and you came from Des Moines here even and made the 4 hour drive. I loved your story. I lived in Des Moines area for 35 years and worked with the Black churches doing Blood Pressure clinics and found many great black fathers and grandfathers. I worked with Dr. Conner at the Polk County Health Dept. He was a great black man and a great father. Thanks for the story. I am sad you loss your father so young. Thanks for being a great writer.

He sounds like a very fine man, much like my own dad who passed away at 49 in 1966. Thanks for setting it straight. Society assumes a good dad, but not always a good Black Dad. I hate that.
